A blizzcon would have to be like a fan festival to be able to inspire us!

Game measurements in themselves offer a wonderful opportunity to meet an exciting, miraculous and sometimes even unknown place with people who have a similarly passion for your own loved hobby. It gets even more exciting when game developers organize big meetings between the community and developers and thus make one or the same several weekends the absolute event of the year. Fans, designers and artists meet there, and can exchange ideas with each other in a pleasantly relaxed frame. At such meetings, friendships have already been forged for a whole life.

The Moment Diablo Died At Blizzcon 2018 (Hardcore Death Highlight)

The in-house Blizzard Festival, the Blizzcon in-house exhibition, took place in the usual form in 2019 for the announcement of WoW (Buy now): Shadowlands. Because then Corona came and in the spring of 2021 the half -hearted and lukewarm attempt by Blizzard came to have the BlizzCon digitally took place. In April 2022, for the announcement of WoW: Shadowlands, they didn't even try again. Because the BlizzConline found many fans to be emotionless, witless and without content. But... it doesn't have to be that way, even if pandemic restrictions push a stop of any live meeting. In order to see that digital fan festivals can work Supercool, Blizzard's people would only have to learn something at Square Enix and Final Fantasy 14. The small, own trade fair for Final Fantasy 14 works online and offline amazingly good and entertaining! We illuminate how the responsible persons of Square Enix reacted to pandemic and bans.

Welcome to the Fanfest - Everywhere!

In the universe of Final Fantasy 14, these events are called fan festivals and they have been enjoying very, very popularity for years. Apart from the unique opportunity to meet FFXIV players from all over the world, the popularity of the events also plays the factor that the fan festivals take place in a wide variety of places. In 2020 and 2021, San Diego, Nagoya and London were on the plan. This is so much more pleasant than if such a meeting always takes place in the same place! Why? In this way, fans can also get the journey and accommodation, whose wallets are not quite as big. So everything was planned, everything booked, everything was prepared... but then came in 2020 and everything was different than expected.

new rules for everyone

When a worldwide pandemic ensured that borders were blocked in the winter of 2020 and that hardly anyone ventured outside the door with a really clear conscience or was not allowed to venture out due to local regulations, it was already clear that there was no early would have a large community meeting implemented. The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in San Diego was to take place in November 2020, the date for the fan festival in Nagoya was in December and the London date was finally in February 2021. All three events had to be canceled. This is understandable, because the developers of Final Fantasy 14 are very important to your health and they do not want to put them at risk. This is how many other game developers worldwide see this-the gaming fairs, some of which were planned by a long hand, fell into the water. We hope that live fan festival will be possible again! the solution of ffxiv: a global fan festival

Good news: Because in October 2020 it was finally clear that all three events had to be canceled because of the pandemic, those responsible for Square Enix sat on the tear and began planning a digital fan festival. The goal: set up an online event that is equal to a real fan festival. The digital meeting took place on May 15 and 16, 2021. For this, the organizers of the event had to master a whole bathing of new challenges.

The biggest task: How can a festival be organized for the entire community without being able to meet on site? Because that is exactly what makes a lot of charm and conviviality of a fan festival: being there, meeting friends, chatting with people who are on a wavelength with you. This cannot simply be reproduced in a virtual space. Those responsible for the BlizzConline have already failed because of a similar challenge. How do you do it better then?
